E. Armand, “Ouragan / Hurricane” (1906)

Heaps of ruins. Pyres. Blood. Tears. Harrowing cries. Desparate appeals, interspersed with terrifying silences. Pitiful supplications, mad laughter.

Murmurs, quivering, hazy and indistinct. Raucous noises, like the waves when they crash into the rocks.

It is the wind of liberty that whispers.

Rambles in the Fields of Anarchist Individualism — No. 4

“Life as experience tears up programs, treads decorum under foot, breaks the windows, descends from the ivory tower. Junius, “The Indifferent” (E. Armand)

In some autobiographical reflections published in l’Unique, E. Armand noted that late in 1897, he wrote “under the signature Franck or Junius or the two together” some articles for Sébastien Faure’s anarchist newspaper Le Libertaire. When I went in search of the writings, I found nothing earlier than February 1898, but I did find three articles signed “Junius” and three poems signed with some variation of “Frank J.” I’ve transcribed all six and am comparing the poems to similar work signed by Armand. I’ll have more to say about all of this is a future installment of the “Rambles in […]

E. Armand, “Solidary?” (1912)

Solidaire ?

Note on Mutualism and the Market-Form

Related Links: “Toward a General Theory of Archy“ “Escheat and Anarchy“ “Archy vs. Anarchy“ There is no doubt in my mind that mutualism has as much to offer in the ongoing conversation about establishing meaningfully anarchistic economic relations as any anarchist tendency, whether it is based in the plumbline anti-monopolism of Benjamin R. Tucker or the anti-absolutist social science of Proudhon. The part of our project that does indeed involve a kind of “market anarchism” seems bound to continue to play an important role among those not absolutely wedded to market abolitionism, if only because it is informed by a […]
